MEI is seeking an energetic, talented individual for the key position of Safety Engineer. The key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Develop Health and Safety Procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and corporate policies.
  • Develop and continually review corporate safety programs as they apply to company, policies and procedures in order to evaluate their effectiveness while implementing improvements where needed to achieve maximum effectiveness.
  • Assure compliance with MEI Respiratory Protection Program including fit testing and calibration of air monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare reports and records to comply with internal company requirements and external regulatory requirements.
  • Reduces workers compensation exposure through accident investigation and proactive accident reduction techniques.
  • Develop and implement plans to provide for the safety and health of company employees at multi-sites.
  • Provide technical assistance to site personnel to address HS issues. Assist in the development of task-specific job safety analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations for all employees, equipment, and operations. Conducts internal audits to ensure compliance.
  • Act as a resource to the organization in the areas of training, safety expertise and arranging vendor services.
  • Assist in training supervisors and employees in all areas of safety and health, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Develop and administer HAZMAT program.Act as a liaison with local, state and federal agencies.
  • Develop and maintain a State Certified “Safety Committee”.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Science, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science or related field with five or more years of successful experience in safety.
  • Experience in Industrial settings, i.e. power plants, steel mills, oil and gas.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in safety process improvement and statutory requirements OR equivalent course work, degree or certification.
  • Experience interacting with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations on a practical basis.
  • Working knowledge of RCRA and DOT regulatory requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • 2-3 years prior supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access software.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

As a member of the Safety and Health team at the world's largest trona mine and soda ash plant, you will gain broad exposure across multiple operations, including contributing to a facility start-up. FMC operations here in Wyoming are growing, but our reportable injuries are diminishing; we've reduced that metric 54% over the past five years, and you'll help us drive to zero. While you'll contribute in multiple areas, you'll invest a large portion of your time in provide regulatory guidance for your assigned facilities, including developing and implementing safety processes.

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a bachelor's degree, preferably in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering, and five to seven years of practical safety experience, with significant safety responsibility, in mining, manufacturing or heavy industry. You also will need strong hands-on, in-the-trenches safety experience in an OSHA facility; experience with OSHA VPP is a strong plus. In addition you will need a demonstrated ability to provide training, both one-on-one on the plant floor and in group settings. Experience with behavior-based safety processes is preferred.

Employee Injury Management & Prevention Coordinator

Summary: Develop, plan, implement and manage the Employee Injury Management and Prevention Program. Implement the Safe Patient Handling program and other similar programs focused on providing both professional and technical support to prevent, manage, and monitor employee occupational injuries.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan, develop, implement and manage an Injury Management and Prevention Program including Safe Patient Handling (SPH) and other similar programs aimed at creating a culture of employee safety, to reduce injury rates and associated costs.
  • Investigate incident and/or accident reports and conduct job hazard analyses.
  • Coordinate, monitor and/or report on OSHA logs and the injury management database to identify, evaluate, and recommend corrective action against risks that may result in injury to employees.
  • Provide ongoing reports and metrics to SMG, Directors and stakeholder departments regarding employee injuries and near misses.
  • Assist in setting department goals and monitor to improve overall employee safety.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze system injury data related to occupational and environmental risks to provide consistent injury data reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and recordkeeping requirements. Develop outcome measures to track program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and integrate program services with other departments in a collaborative approach including participation in planning, evaluating and providing recommendations for equipment purchases, new construction planning, and manual work processes to meet Safe Patient Handling program goals.
  • Facilitate the Injury Management and Prevention committee activites.
  • Develop, approve, review, revise and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
  • Collaborate with Education Services and OHS to educate and train medical staff, PVHS management and staff regarding occupational safety concepts.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements related to occupational safety.
  • Measure, assess, and improve the program's performance by actively participating in the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Plan, develop and implement staff SPH education, training, and competency assessment in use of equipment and program elements.
  • Identify, propose, and oversee equipment to meet current and future system needs for safe patient handling. Communicate SPH goals and objectives and SPH program status to facility and system administrators, and Environment of Care committee.
  • Develop and implement system equipment and sling tracking programs in collaboration with Facilities Services and Hospitality Services.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate equipment selection, installation, and maintenance with Purchasing, Contracting, Facilities Management, Infection Control, Patient Safety and other applicable services.
  • Provide expertise and support to units for safety meetings and/or briefings, incident follow-up, and remediation training. Participate in continuous process improvement using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model when appropriate.
  • Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Registered Nurse, Health and Safety program or similar health and wellness program. Master's degree in Nursing, Ergonomics, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or other relevant area preferred. Active license or certification in related clinical field required. If applicant is credentialed in a relative clinical field, license or certification must be current.
